Douglas
Dec 12, 1935 — Dec 21, 2024
Ardella Ann Harris Douglas, age 89, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away at Mountain Glen Assisted Living in Mount Vernon, WA on December 21, 2024, the place she loved and called home. She was born December 12, 1935 in Sedro-Woolley, to Wallace and Anna (Setterlund) Calkins.
She was born with a gift to be a nurse to take care of those that could not take care of themselves. Throughout her life, she worked at Northern, Western and Eastern State Hospitals. Northern State Hospital was such a large part of her life, she even wrote and published a book about her years working there and the lives that she touched and the heartache of 100's of lives it affected when they closed the facility.
Ardella, having a love of travel, geology and playing bingo, she was able to travel the world over after retiring. Collecting information for the Calkins World Newspaper and family reunions. In those travels, she could always point you in the direction of the nearest Bingo Hall.
Ardella is survived by her sons, Richard (Diane) Harris and Steve (Terri) Harris; daughter in law, Valerie Harris; and like a son, Fritz (Diane) Bentz; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Gene Douglas; son, Jerry Harris; grandson, Michael Harris; two sisters, Lila Thompson, Ester Baurer; two brothers, Wallace Calkins and George Johnson.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00, Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley, Pastor Jim Cannon presiding. Memorial Contributions are suggested to a diabetes or heart foundation of your choice.
