Obituary

Carol Fredrickson, age 82, of  Sedro-Woolley, passed away peacefully on Saturday,  May 20, 2023 after her battle with cancer. Carol was born on July 9, 1940 to Velma (Smith) and Joseph Haley in Snohomish, WA.  She was married to Norman Fredrickson and lived in the Day Creek area until they parted ways in 1988.

Carol was a mental health counselor for numerous agencies in Skagit Valley while residing in the Mount Vernon and Burlington area.  She touched the lives of many of the mentally ill in our community with her warm and generous care.  Her coworkers always remarked on her kindness.  She enjoyed her dogs, family and gardening and always had an abundance of pink flowers in her yard.

After retiring, Carol met Ray Oban, and moved to Oak Harbor. They enjoyed being part of the Whidbey Cruisers Car Club together. Once Ray passed, Carol moved back to the Skagit Valley that she loved. She would spend her days either working in her yard or making crocheted/knitted baby blankets and hats for WIC. Her friends and family always liked looking forward to Christmas when Carol would bake everyone cookies, almond roca and peanut brittle. Carol's last year was spent at County Meadows Village in Sedro-Woolley where she would enjoy time doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to music and chatting with the folks who reside there.

Carol is survived by just one of her 10 siblings, David Haley (Nancy) of Arizona; daughter, Diana Donahou (Michael) of Mount Vernon; son, James Fredrickson, of Mitchell, SD; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Joseph Haley; siblings, Verna, Ruth, Melissa, Betty, Dorothy, William, Calvin, Wilbur, Andy; grandson, Christofer Loreen.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 11:00, on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Stillaguamish Grange in Stanwood.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hospice of the NW in Mount Vernon. Share your memories of Carol and sign the online guest register.
