Charles "Chuck" Vernon McConnell, age 92, passed away on February 6, 2025, in Bellingham, Washington. Born on January 22, 1933, in Yakima, WA to Evan and Frances McConnell. While he spent his final years in Burlington, much of his life was centered in Sedro-Woolley, a town that he loved deeply.
Chuck's life was defined by his devotion to his family, his career in education, his love for music, and his deep-rooted sense of community. He married Alice Hoover, the love of his life, and together they shared 70 years of happiness, laughter, and RV adventures. Their love was a beautiful testament to commitment, and she was his favorite travel partner.
He earned his master's in education from Laverne College in California. His career as an educator spanned many years, beginning as a teacher in Husum, WA, before moving to Sedro-Woolley, where he became principal at Lyman, Hamilton, and Samish Schools. He later served as vice principal at Cascade Middle School and principal at Evergreen Elementary. Chuck's heart was always in his work, and his kindness and guidance left a lasting impression on his students and colleagues alike.
Beyond the classroom, Chuck was an avid traveler, with a love for chasing warmer weather. He was also passionate about sports, especially volleyball and horseshoes, where he brought a competitive yet fun spirit. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley and deeply involved in community organizations such as the Lions Club International, Good Sam Camping & RV Club, and Kiwanis International.
Chuck leaves behind his devoted wife, Alice McConnell; son, Bruce McConnell (wife Ella Shi and grandson Eric Xu); son Steven McConnell and granddaughters Sharayah Bostock, Kierra Burton, Kendra McConnell; great-grandchildren, Charlie Bostock, Britton Bostock, Theodora Burton; daughter Colleen Stevens; grandchildren Malin Stevens, Madison Stevens; great-grandchildren Damien-Tate Stevens, and Eliza-Nadine Stevens.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Evan and Frances McConnell.
A memorial service to celebrate Chuck's full and generous life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, located at 1013 Polte Rd., Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck's memory to Kiwanis International. Share your memories of Chuck and sign the online guest register.
