Obituary

Darlene Agnes (Snoozy) Mailliard, 88, of the Lyman-Hamilton area passed away at home on November 11, 2023.  Darlene was born May 30, 1935 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Maurice and Gesche Snoozy.  In 1936, the family relocated to NW Washington and settled in Monroe.  Darlene graduated from Monroe High School in 1953 and attended beauty school.

In 1955, she was joined in marriage to Richard 'Dick' Mailliard.  In their early years, they operated dairy farms in Snohomish County.  In 1965, they moved their growing family to Skagit County, buying a farm on Cockreham Island.  Darlene and Dick owned and operated Skagit Valley Dairy until 1987.  After the family stopped farming, Darlene worked at Priceless Sporting Goods in Sedro-Woolley and Mailliard's Landing Nursery.

Darlene was proud of her farming years where she worked side-by-side with her husband and raised Holstein heifer calves.  Her vegetable and flower gardens were the envy of many.  She will be remembered for her canning skills, baked goods, and fought over dill pickles.

She enjoyed family gatherings, time with friends and attending Bible study.  Darlene was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley where she spent many hours working at the Walnut Tree.

Darlene is survived by her children, Cynthia Mailliard, Linda (Cork) Hunger, Michael (Toni) Mailliard, Susan (Bill) Esary, and Steven (Kim Dixon) Mailliard; grandchildren, Misty (Cory) Nahoopii, Brant (Carey) Hunger, Robert (Kate) Walsh, Kayla (Johnathan) Ibarra, Nolan Mailliard, Shane Mailliard, Dakota Esary, Bryce (Ivy) Esary and Colton Mailliard; great grandchildren, Olivia Hunger, Presley Esary, Kayden Ibarra, and Sage and Aspen Walsh; sister-in-laws Marjorie Sipos and Clare Snoozy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard 'Dick'; parents; sister, Lucille Earlywine; brother, Edward Snoozy; son-in-law, Russell Farstead.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am, December 2, 2023 at Skagit Baptist Church, 1325 Township Street, Sedro-Woolley.  A private family burial will take place at Hamilton Cemetery.

A special thank you for the care and support provided by Hospice of the Northwest.
