Jack Ruthford passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the age of 96. Born

January 19, 1930, Jack lived a life marked by devotion to family, friendship, and service. Jack was born, and spent most of his childhood in Belfast, Washington, a small town between Burlington and Alger.  He attended school in Belfast and graduated Burlington High School in 1948.  Jack served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953.  On October 13, 1951, he married the love of his life, Geraldine "Gerry" Stephan, in Tampa, Florida. During Jack's service in the Air Force, the couple made their home in Tampa. Following his military service, Jack returned to the Hickson community where he lived for the remainder of his life.  He partnered with his father in the establishment of a Grade A Dairy Farm and worked at the Anacortes Texaco Refinery until his retirement.  Jack was a lifetime member and Past Master of the Burlington Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Mt. Vernon Elks, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was an inaugural member, and first elected Chief of the Hickson Volunteer Fire Department.  He was elected Chief because he was, at the time, the only member with live-fire training experience.  Jack and Gerry enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and creating lasting memories during 43 consecutive summers at Lake Chelan and many winters in Yuma, Arizona. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jack was known for his kindness, steady presence, and deep love for those around him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gerry (2013) and granddaughter Renee King (2024). Jack is survived by his daughters, Debra King (Edward) and Jackie Berry(Daniel); his son, John Ruthford Jr.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
