James ‘Jr’
Richard Dillon
Dec 2, 1949 — Aug 20, 2025
James 'Jim/JR' Richard Dillon, age 75, a longtime resident and business owner of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away Wednesday August 20, 2025. He was born on December 2, 1949, in Seattle, WA to Carroll and Beverly (Longmire) Dillon.
Jim attended school in Sedro-Woolley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class 1968. He attended Washington State University and worked in Alaska during the summers. The pull of working with his father in the family business (Valley Auto Supply) was too strong, so he came home after his junior year. Jim loved going to work every day, as there were always new challenges and he enjoyed diagnosing problems and helping customers. He worked with his parents until they retired, then he purchased the business and then ran it until he retired in 2012. Jim and Sharon started their travel adventures as they eased into retirement.
Jim enjoyed volunteering in Sedro-Woolley. He was a member of the Auto Shop Advisory Board for SWHS. He volunteered at the Helping Hands Food Bank and the Open-Door Soup Kitchen and was a proud member of Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club where he was honored with the Paul Harris Award.
He had many interests outside of work including watching baseball and his beloved Cardinals, fishing, restoring old cars, and riding his Quad in the sand dunes. Every year he would take trips with the family to the Oregon dunes and always tried to fit in a yearly "guys trip" there as well. The hobby that he loved the most was playing guitar. He would practice almost every evening, and every Monday night he would meet with friends to practice tunes together. He was always looking for a new song to work on.
Jim and Sharon have a tight-knit group of friends and have enjoyed their Wednesday night and Friday night dinners, which they have kept up for over 35 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon of 44 years; his children, Jim & Jill Peitersen, Ron & Melena Peitersen; grandchildren, Kyle Peitersen, Derek Peitersen and Jena Peitersen; two sisters and a brother, Carol & Jack Straathof, Jan & Art Woolbert and Pat & Charlene Dillon; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; Sharon's siblings; Charlien & Chuck Cover, Karen & Wayne Whitehouse, Ken & Deone Mackenzie; close friends that made his life a joy including, Rick L, Greg B, Jim A, Dale K, Casey M, Jared B and too many others to list.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll & Bev Dillon, Sharon's parents, Charles & Shirley Mackenzie; aunt, Arlene Stearns; sister in-law, Shirley (Mackenzie) Brock and brother in-law, Tom Mcpherson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday August 29, 2025, at Lemley Chapel 1003 3 rd Street, Sedro-Woolley, Pastor Roy Swihart presiding, reception to follow at Eagle Haven Winery, 8233 Sims Road, Sedro-Woolley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's honor may be made to: Helping Hands Food Bank 9386 Fruitdale Road, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284 or Open Door Kitchen offered at Central United Methodist Church, 1013 Polte Road, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
