James Shelton, age 70, passed away on June 25, 2026, at home in Birdsview, WA. He was a good man who will be remembered for his genuine compassion for others, his pleasant nature, and his love of visiting with and talking to people. He had a way of making conversation easy and meaningful, and he was highly respected by those who knew him.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1975-1984, working with radar technology. His sharp mind and gift for detail served him well throughout his life. He worked for IBM, where he programmed tests for engineers. A true genius with technology, he was precise, thoughtful, and always interested in how things worked. He later worked as a truck driver.  He was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter and enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including amateur (HAM) radio, visiting air museums, riding motorcycles, and shooting at the gun club. He loved learning about different types of aircraft and enjoyed visiting with friends and participating in group discussions centered around aviation. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with Carol.

In 2003, he married Carol Penn in Mount Vernon, and together they shared many meaningful years, filled with companionship, conversation, and shared adventures. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Shelton, and his daughter-in-law, Wendy Shelton (wife of his son, Bryan).  Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Penn, daughter, Jessica Orto (Matt), son, Bryan Shelton, sister, Tammy Shelton (Marilee) and brother, Robert Shelton.
