James ‘Jim’
Walker
d. Jul 10, 2022
James 'Jim' Donald Walker, age 93, of Burlington, Washington, peacefully passed away July 10, 2022, with family by his side. He was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada to David and Dorothy (Matthews) Walker.
Jim spent his childhood years in Sunburst, Montana. During his teen years, his family moved to Oak Harbor, WA and then on to Bellingham, WA. There he met the love of his life, Meredith Moberg, in chemistry class at Bellingham High School. Jim and Meredith were married for over 68 years, raising their three children, Jeff, Julie and Nancy, in Mount Vernon.
After high school, Jim served in the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. Afterward he attended Western Washington University. Jim worked for Shell Oil Refinery for 31 years and retired in 1986. After his retirement, Jim and Meredith moved to Burlington and he helped out by driving a tractor on his son-in-law's family farm.
Jim never did anything halfway. He gave everything he did 100%. He was an avid fitness buff, regularly working out at the local gym and he also loved to run. At the age of 69, he decided to train for a marathon. He completed the Portland Marathon and also did many other organized runs throughout the years.
Jim had a strong faith in God, which was reflected in his words and actions. He was a regular attendee at Christ the King Church in Mount Vernon, hosted group bible studies, and was kind and generous toward others. His love of Jesus Christ was a model for all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Meredith; children, Jeff (Sherry) Walker, Julie (Curt Yamamoto) Walker, and Nancy (Martin) Galbreath; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Streit, Chris (Challon) Walker, Kelsey (Elliot) Hall, Randall Keating, Danielle Rasar, Megan Walker, Sean (Megan) Galbreath, and Jesse (Cailey) Galbreath; 12 great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Berniece Maloney.
Jim will be laid to rest at Greenhills Cemetery, Burlington, WA in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch and School in Montana at www.Pinehaven.net . Please share your memories of Jim and sign the online guest register.
