Judy Hansen, age 82, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Judy was born December 14, 1943, to Ole and Doris Moen in Mount Vernon, WA.  On March 24, 1962, she married the love of her life, Herbert Francis Hansen.  Together, they shared 61 beautiful years of marriage.

Judy was close to her siblings Nadine Simpson, Ned Moen, and Jack Moen and cherished her family deeply.  She and Herb moved to Branshel Farms on Cockreham Island in the spring of 1970, where they owned and operated a dairy farm for 40 years.  Judy served as the bookkeeper for the family farm and was the heart of their home.

She also worked for many years as a paraprofessional in the Sedro-Woolley School District, where she touched the lives of many students.  Judy was a devoted 4-H leader for the Sunshine Dairy 4-H Club, mentoring youth in everything from cats and dogs to horses and cattle.  She also served as Superintendent of the Skagit County Fair dairy barn for many years.

Judy's community spirit extended beyond agriculture. She volunteered with the Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley, served on the scholarship panel, and gave her time to the Sedro-Woolley Walnut Tree thrift store.  She treasured her friendships with fellow Soroptimist members and the women from Herb's graduating class of 1959, with whom she loved to celebrate life.

Judy Hansen's best friend since high school was Karen Morgan. They were like sisters.  Judy loved going swimming at Day Creek with her children and grandchildren, along with Karen.  Mom loved the outdoors and swimming in creeks and lakes.  One of my Mom's favorite activities to do with her husband and family was to take day trips over the North Cascades.  Herb and Judy always packed food to do barbecues up on the trailheads in the North Cascades and after eating, we would go for a hike at Canyon Creek.  We would always play in the old cabins.

Judy had a deep love for animals, especially the many dogs and cats on the farm.  Judy had three cats Smudgy, Babu and Monkey.  These kitties were her enjoyment and she doted on them.  She loved cats so much that she even fed the local strays that lived at her place.

She was a talented gardener who took great pride in her vibrant flower beds and bountiful vegetable garden.  She loved picking berries and fresh produce to can, and her cooking was legendary: her Hawaiian ham and fried chicken were family favorites.  Homemade meals, fresh from the garden and farm, were a staple in her home, and you never left her house hungry.  Judy adored teatime with friends and family, complete with tea sandwiches and cookies.

She also enjoyed classic television shows from her childhood, like The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy.  But above all, the greatest joy of her life was her children and grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her six children, Tony (Kris) Hansen, Holly (Dave) Froneberger, Brandon (Alice) Hansen, Sherman Hansen, Lance Hansen (Ashley Brown), Shelby Hansen; her grandchildren, Chelsea Hansen, Carly Froneberger, Scotty Hansen, Bryce (Brittany) Hansen, Tyler Hansen, Shawn Froneberger, Andrew Hansen, Anna Hansen, Dane Hansen and Luke Hansen; one great-grandchild, Aurora Hansen; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, including cousins, Bruce and family, Craig (Marcella), Dan Bancroft and family, Yvonne Izzett and family, June (Don) Dixon and Jim Bancroft.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Doris Moen; siblings, Nadine Simpson, Ned Moen and Jack Moen; her husband, Herbert Francis Hansen; her son, Herbert Junior Hansen.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public funeral.  Judy will be laid to rest at Hamilton Cemetery, among the mountains and streams near the farm where she and Herb built their life together.
