June Pitman Browning passed February 9, 2025, after a year's long struggle with dementia.  June was born May 14, 1934 in Emmett, Idaho, the fifth child of Heber and Elizabeth Galbreath Pitman.  The Pitman's moved to Washington in the late 1930's, living first in Big Lake and then settling on a small farm in Clear Lake.  In 1952 June married Wesley Miller and together they had two daughters, Viola 'Vi' and Barbara 'Bobbie'.  Their marriage ended in 1954.

In 1955 June married a fellow Clear Lake kid, Harry Land, and they welcomed two more children, Gail and Kenneth.  This blended, very active family lived first in Mount Vernon, before they too settled on a 20 acre farm in Clear Lake.  Shortly after this June went to work for Washington Bulb Co., which dovetailed perfectly with her love of gardening.  She worked "in the barn" during the fall and winter, picked fresh market flowers in the spring, and in the summer was spent as a "field boss" for the crews of local kids digging bulbs.  I'm sure there is still a smattering of those kids who remember getting their rows checked by June.

When her marriage to Harry ended in 1984, June's adventurous spirit kicked in and she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she started her career with Carrs Grocery, eventually managing their deli and coffee shop.  She loved it – a constant stream of hungry people that she was more than happy to feed.

We think June was at her happiest in Alaska.  It gave her a great career, but even more importantly it gave her the opportunity to pursue her true passion – fishing! She was avid!  After a few years in Anchorage she transferred to a Carrs store in Kenai – the King salmon Mecca!  As far as June was concerned this was Heaven. But this Heaven came with very cold winters, and after 10 years, she returned to the "lower 48," buying a home in Sedro Woolley.

In 1999, while watching racing at Skagit Speedway (another passion) she met Floyd Browning.  Sharing a love of family and gardening, they married in 2002; they were together until her death.

June is survived by her husband Floyd, her children, Vi Land Knutzen, Bobbie Land, Gail Land, Ken Land and wife Linda; stepson, Kevin Browning and wife Donna; stepson, Tracy Browning; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Heber and Elizabeth; siblings, George Pitman, Jean Pitman Prather, Chauncey 'Channy' Pitman, Floyd Pitman, Colleen Pitman Straight, and Richard 'Dick' Pitman.

June's family would like to thank the loving staff at Mira Vista Care Center for their care of June in her final years, as well as the staff at Hospice of the Northwest, whose care and support during her final days was truly a blessing.

A memorial service for June will be held at 11:00,  on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Lemley Chapel, followed by a reception at Lorenzo's Mexican Restaurant in Sedro-Woolley.  Although June loved flowers, we ask that you instead consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association so we can one day find a cure for that horrible disease.
