Margaret
Ammons
d. Feb 3, 2023
Margaret "Mammaw" Ammons, age 87, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon, Washington. She was born September 5, 1935, in Allens Creek, North Carolina, the daughter of Sam and Gladys (Mitchell) McNabb.
Margaret was a longtime resident of Hamilton. Margaret moved to Hamilton along with her family from North Carolina when she was 13. She was united in marriage to Dennis Ammons on April 20, 1956, in Birdsview and they celebrated 52 years together. She was employed for many years at canneries in Burlington but her primary occupation was mother and caregiver to all she knew.
Margret's pride and joy was her family. She loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids with all her heart. She treasured her friends, both old and new, and everyone who entered her home was greeted with the same warmth as if they were her own children. The first words any visitor heard from her were "Can I fix you something to eat?" She was happiest when her home was filled to the brim with family and friends and especially when she was holding a baby.
Margaret was an avid reader who also enjoyed word puzzles and games. She took pride in caring for her plants and animals. Dogwood trees were a favorite bloom that reminded her of good memories with her sisters. On sunny days she liked to take her cat for walks. Margaret was an excellent cook, famous for her mac and cheese and no-bake cookies.
Margaret is survived by her five children, Mike Ammons (Sue), Doug Ammons (Laurie), Debbie Thramer (Ron), Darrell Ammons (Loretta), and Susie Brazee (Archie); six grandchildren, Brian Ammons (Krissa), David Ammons (Alyssa), Elisabeth Angell, Joseph Angell (Miracles) Sarah Ammons (James), and Mack Mani (Jordan); her great-grandchildren, Cadel, Wilder, Jackson, Daniel, Addisyn, and Isaac; her sister, Polly Buchanan (Leonard); uncle, Glen Mitchell (Rosalie); brothers in law, Jim Ammons, and Larry Smith; sister in law, Elaine Stafford; numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; her sisters, Alice Pressely, Barbara Dills, and Ima Smith; brothers Eugene McNabb and Mack McNabb; her grandson, Matthew Ammons and great granddaughter Lillian Waldron.
A time of visitation will be available from 9:00-5:00 on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Lemley Chapel.
