Obituary

Mary Margaret Putnam Eighme, age 95, a Lyman resident, passed away April 17, 2024, in Burlington, Washington.  She was born September 8, 1928, in Glendale, California to Edward Wallace and Margaret (Siverts) Putnam.  During the depression, her family lived near Cottonwood, Arizona.  She graduated from Pacific Union College in 1950 with a B. S. in Home Economics.  She was married to Lloyd Elwyn Eighme on June 3, 1951.  She taught Home Economics for eight years in junior and senior high schools.  Then, for four years, she worked part-time as an assistant food service director and part-time as an instructor in college home economics.  After moving to Corvallis, Oregon, she worked full-time as a clinical dietitian in a hospital and earned her M. S. in Home Economics at Oregon State University with an emphasis in food and nutrition.  For the next 24 years, she taught college classes primarily in food and nutrition.  During that time, she was the chairperson of the Department of Consumer and Family Science for 12 years.  She retired in June 1989 as a Professor Emerita of Home Economics.

Mary Margaret and her husband enjoyed an active retirement by creating a lovely country home.  She participated in weaving guilds, teaching seminars in weaving, creative jacket construction and wellness nutrition/cooking schools.  She was a prolific seamstress, gardener, wool hat maker and created Hardanger embroidery lace.  Her hostess skills were enjoyed by many visitors to their home.  She enjoyed working with so many interesting people during her life.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the North Cascade Seventh-day Adventist Church in Burlington, Pastor Ron Halvorsen presiding.  Share your memories of Mary Margaret and sign the online guest register.
