Patrick G. "Pat" Moran, 88, a nearly lifelong resident of Skagit County, passed away in his Coupeville, Washington home in the company of his loving daughter/caregiver, Shelly, and former spouse, Sherry.

Pat was born in his beloved Sedro-Woolley in 1937 to Gordon and Jessie (Arbuckle) Moran. The family lived upriver before moving to Clear Lake where he was raised. He attended Sedro-Woolley High School, but left school early to join the workforce. Pat struggled in school, always believing he was less intelligent than he really was, at a time when students with disabilities were entirely unsupported.

Those who knew Pat well knew he had an exceptional mind for subjects of interest. Pat was like an encyclopedia when it came to his impressive knowledge of old Ford and Chevy trucks. He had a special affection for 70's Ford 4x4s, Chevy Kodiak 1-ton work trucks, and his former '68 Ford F-250 Highboy, which he said was the nicest truck in all of Woolley at the time. Pat was also excellent at drafting detailed technical drawings.

A hardworking man, Pat worked in logging and mining before he began his career at Skagit Steel & Iron Works (Skagit Corp./Bendix). Pat was a member of the International Molders and Allied Workers Union A.F.L.-C.I.O. from April of 1961 until injury forced his retirement in July 1990. Pat enjoyed fishing with his father before his death in 1958. He was a

social man who enjoyed visiting friends and family and spending hours on the phone with them. In his younger years, he could often be found at Vern Sims Ford or Herb's Chevron. He loved steam locomotives, tractors, and heavy equipment. Pat enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and watching television. He especially loved YouTube and working puzzles in his later years.

Pat will be remembered for his humor, his sweet tooth, and his huge heart, which was readily willing to help those in need.

He is survived by his children, John and Shelly of Coupeville; granddaughter, Raechel (Khashchuluun) of Seattle; sister, Joan of Bellingham; brother, Michael of Sedro-Woolley; multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins (including special niece, Renee and dear cousin, Nancy); as well as his longtime neighbor/pal, Bruce Savage (Cassie).

Pat was preceded in death by several friends and family members, including his parents; longtime stepfather, Lloyd Culver; brother, John Robert Moran; special cousins, Pat Rogers, Jim Johnson and Jim Arbuckle; and best friend, Stan Pawlowicz.

The family would like to thank Pat's incredible caregivers/friends, Susie and Shelley, who helped Shelly keep her promise to her father that he would never have to live in a nursing facility. Your loving care was a blessing that can't be properly expressed in words.

Thanks also to the medical professionals and staff, past and present, who provided exceptional care to Pat over the years and allowed us to have 88 years with him: Skagit Regional Cardiology (Dr. Paliwal & Meris Lehecka, ARNP, DNP), Burlington Family Medicine (Doctors Abbott, Nenninger, and Tinkerhess), PeaceHealth Pulmonology (Dr. Berry), Proliance Surgeons (Dr. Smith), Island Urology (Dr. Kevwitch), and WhidbeyHealth staff in the Emergency Dept., Pharmacy, Palliative Care Dept., (especially Stevette Javier, GNP-BC) and the entire Hospice Team for providing compassionate end-of-life care.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Union Cemetery in Sedro-Woolley. To join the procession, please meet at Lemley Chapel at noon. Casual attire (jeans, flannel, camo), especially in the color green, is encouraged.

Memorial donations in Pat's name may be made to the Whidbey Health Foundation, Coupeville Schools Foundation, or the charity of your choosing.
