Robert Harold Mainard, Jr., 77, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025 at Skagit Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Bob, the oldest of six children, was born to Robert Harold Mainard, Sr. and Mable Louise (Thorn) Mainard in Great Falls, Montana on April 12, 1945. He spent his first 13 years in Montana before moving to Burlington, Washington in 1958. Bob was a proud graduate of the Burlington-Edison High School class of 1965. In May of 1966, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country as a telecommunication specialist in Okinawa, Japan until his honorable discharge in February of 1970. Returning to the Valley, Bob found a job working with his dad at Texaco Refinery in Anacortes. During his 35-year career at Puget Sound Refinery, he worked as a machinist and safety specialist. In 1974, Bob married the love of his life Sharon Giesler. The happy couple were blessed with their daughter Mandy in 1977, and their son Rob in 1979. Bob and Sharon recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Bob was an active member of the Skagit Valley community serving in both the Mt. Vernon and Burlington volunteer fire departments, and as a member of the Eagles, Elks, and Jaycees service organizations.

Upon his retirement in 2005, Bob acquired his Harley Davidson motorcycle which he enjoyed immensely. Among his many excursions, his favorite was a trip to Sturgis with his motorcycle group. Bob and Sharon loved traveling all over the United States together in their motorhome, visiting their son Rob wherever he might be stationed and camping with grandchildren at Thousand Trails. When Sharon retired, they began "snow-birding" in Arizona. For 15 years, the two enjoyed "happy hour" with friends at Monte Vista in Mesa. Here Bob became a tenacious tennis player. The most important thing to Bob was spending time with his family.  He loved reunions and holidays with brothers and sisters, and watching the sporting events of his children, but "Papa's" biggest passion was spending time with his four beloved grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon Mainard; daughter, Mandy (Alex) Englund; son, Robert (Nikki) Mainard, III; grandchildren, Abby Mainard, Alexia Englund, Karson Englund and McKinley Mainard; brother, Jim Mainard; sisters, Frieda Moore, Connie Nims, Bonnie Kyle and Evelyn Morse; mother-in-law, Marylee Giesler; sister-in-law, Doreen Gallino; brother-in-law, Bob Giesler; numerous in-laws; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mable Mainard, Sr.; father-in-law Donald Giesler; brothers-in-law, Jeff Nims, Rick Moore and Earl Moore.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at noon on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Green Hills Cemetery, Burlington, WA. Following the service, a Celebration of Bob's Life will take place from 1:00–3:00 PM at the Burlington Fire Department Hall, 350 E. Sharon Ave., Burlington.
