Obituary

Robert Michael "Bob" Stanley, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Washington, surrounded by the legacy of a life well lived.

Bob was born on August 8, 1947, in Ellensburg, Washington, the beloved only son of Robert W. and Theresa "Rita" (O'Connell) Stanley. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Sandra and Norine, forming close family bonds that remained important to him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Class of 1965, Bob went on to attend the University of Washington, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. During his college years, he distinguished himself as a dedicated member of the Husky rowing team from 1967 to 1970. In 1970, Bob and his teammates achieved a remarkable victory, winning the IRA Varsity Challenge Cup an accomplishment that led to their selection to represent the United States at the FISA World Championships that same year. This achievement remained a point of pride throughout his life.

Bob devoted more than 50 years to his profession as a pharmacist, serving his community with care, knowledge, and quiet dedication. Outside of his career, he embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He had a deep appreciation for classic cars and could often be found enjoying hydroplane racing, riding motorcycles, or attending events at Skagit Speedway. Bob also generously gave his time volunteering at the Heritage Flight Museum in Burlington, where he shared his interest in history and aviation with others.

Bob was married to Judy Harvey in 1970 and later found companionship again when he married Carol Sullivan in 2004. He cherished his role as a father and family member and took great pride in those closest to him.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Catherine and Carolyn Stanley; his sister, Norine (Bill) Stanley-Kimball; His niece Shannon Colburn and her son Peyton; his nephew, Brandon Sitko and his daughter Jaden; and his cousin, Susan (Steve) Broz. Bob's warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Theresa Stanley, and his sister, Sandra Stanley.
