Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Arthur Burnett passed away at his home on Sunday, September 12, 2021. He was 64.  Ron was born September 29, 1956, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Robert and Rita (Dedert) Burnett. At the age of three, he moved with his family to Skagit County. In his youth Ron enjoyed the solitude of exploring the wilderness surrounding the family property with his dog, Spike.  At 16, Ron began what would eventually become a 39-year career at Safeway. He graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1975, and in 1976, married his high school sweetheart. In 1978, they bought the home where they raised their family, and where Ron resided until his passing.  Throughout the '80s and '90s, Ron was active in youth soccer and little league baseball, spending countless hours preparing the fields for play. At game time, he would officiate.  Ron imparted his love for the outdoors to his sons, taking them fishing, hiking, camping, and often out to explore the back roads and mountains surrounding Skagit County.  One of Ron's proudest moments was when his eldest son graduated from Navy boot camp in 2000. Ron experienced this pride again in 2005 when his younger son also graduated from Navy boot camp.  Whether it was for a get-together, putting in hay at the farm, or to make it possible for the love of one's life to move to the US so they can marry and start a family – when his people needed him, Ron was always there with an offer to help, tools, a loaner, or even to let you camp in his backyard.  After retiring in 2011, Ron enjoyed spending time in the solitude of his home, though he would always welcome a visit from friends or family, regardless of the hour. He would often greet his neighbors with a smile, wave, and some kind words, and loved spending time with his cat, Boots, who Ron affectionately referred to as "Boo".

He is survived by Tia (Vlahovich) Burnett, with whom he raised two sons; children, Tim & his wife, Mollie Burnett, and Brian Burnett; sister, Ruth Ann & Randy Lavine; nephews, Richard and Ryan Lavine; and his aunt, Bernice & Roy Hensler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rita; stepmom, Lorraine Miller; and his brother, Timothy Burnett.

The family would like to thank his neighbors, the Sams and the Lattings Families. The three families have formed the foundation of their neighborhood for over 40 years, and have developed a tight bond. We appreciate you and all you have done.

Ron will be interred with his parents at Saxon Cemetery, in Acme, WA, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2pm. The family invites all who would like to attend the graveside memorial. Please share your memories of Ron and sign the online guest register.
