Obituary

Russell Erwin Snell went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on January 15, 2025.  He was born at home in Williamstown, Kansas on July 18, 1937 to Carroll and Lena (Godfrey) Snell.  He was raised in Lawrence, Kansas until the age of 7 when the family moved to Washington.  The family made their home in Edison and Mount Vernon, before finally settling in Sedro-Woolley.  He attended Edison Elementary School and Cleveland Elementary School in the early years and would have graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School class of 1955 had he not begun his logging career early instead.

He began logging with his uncle, Curtis and father, Carroll until buying their logging business (Snell Logging) with his brother, Richard (Dick) Snell.  He worked out on the peninsula in the Forks area for over 25 years, coming home on weekends to attend church and spend time with his family, as well as ride motorcycles as often as he could.  His love for motorcycles began when he was 6 years old and he took his first spin on the big road after he got done with his morning chore of milking the cows.

He enjoyed traveling all over the Pacific Northwest with friends and family to enjoy riding motorcycles and snowmobiles.  He made 12 trips to Daytona Beach over the years for The Daytona 200 during Bike Week with his father, brothers, nephews and friends.

He still did some small logging jobs independently after "retiring" around 2004, but also spent lots of time uptown in Sedro-Woolley; two of his favorite places to go visit with people was Bonnie Jo's Café and Joy's Bakery.  He was a longtime member of the Sedro-Woolley Free Methodist Church, now known as North Cascade Christian Fellowship.

He married the love of his life, Margie Lou (Hoyt) Snell at the age of 18 on March 24, 1956, leaving a legacy of a 68-year marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Snell; daughters, Caryl (Nick) Burroughs, Eileen (Ken) Robinson, Jo (Scott) Cruse; grandchildren, Andrea (Kelly) Frydenlund, Bo (Natalie) Robinson, Ashley Cruse Elliott, Caleb Cruse, Kyle (Heidi) Burroughs, Mackenzie Cruse, Madeline Burroughs, Madison Cruse, Elliona Cruse; great-grandchildren Reagan, Kannon, Jack, Alaina, Aksel, Ryker, Aengus and Kaylynn as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Lena Snell; three brothers, Gayland, Richard and Roger; great-grandson, Rowan DeChenne; nephew, Wesley Snell; niece, Barbara (Snell) Hernandez.

There will be a time of visitation Friday, January 24, 2025 from 3:00-6:00 at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley and a Funeral Service at North Cascade Christian Fellowship (NCCF) on Saturday, January 25 at 11:00.  Interment at Union Cemetery immediately following service; reception at NCCF to follow interment.  There will be a motorcycle escort from NCCF to the cemetery, weather permitting, if you ride, please join in!
