Thomas J.
Gross
Nov 24, 1957 — Jun 25, 2025
Thomas John Gross, known affectionately as Tom to his family and friends, passed away on June 25, 2025, in Bellingham, Washington, due to medical complications. Born on November 24, 1957, in Burlington, Washington, Tom's life was marked by his kindness, intelligence, and adventurous spirit that touched everyone he knew.
Tom was the cherished son of Ruth Gross and the late Richard Gross. He grew up alongside his siblings, Jim (Sharon), David (Chris), and Kristie (Scott) Peterson, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. His family expanded to include five beloved nephews, one niece, and five grand nephews and one grandniece, who will remember their Uncle Tom for his playful nature and the wisdom he imparted.
A proud alumnus of the University of Washington, Tom's passion for the natural world led him to study botany, a field where he thrived and which fueled his love for the environment. His commitment to nature and community was evident early on as he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, an accomplishment that foreshadowed a lifetime of leadership and service.
Tom's faith played a significant role in his life, as he lived his Christian values through acts of kindness and charity. He was a pillar of strength and support within his church community, often volunteering his time and talents to various church functions.
A man of many interests, Tom found joy in the simplicity of camping under the stars, strumming melodies on his guitar, and spending time with animals. The excitement of football season, the tranquility of swimming, and the thrill of exploring the great outdoors were sources of immense pleasure for him.
The world has lost a truly kind and intelligent soul, an adventurer at heart who lived his life with purpose and joy. Thomas John Gross will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
